CHARLES R. PROBST, SR. “CHARLIE”, 81, of Martins Ferry, OH passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 25,2018, he and Shirley’s 63rd wedding anniversary.
Charlie was born on October 15, 1936 in Wheeling, WV, the second son of the late Lawrence and Laura Edna “Hamilton” Probst.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his brother, Mack “Bern” Probst.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley “Milbert” Probst; four children: Linda (Jerry) Pockl, Chuck (Karen) Probst, Cindy (Tom Henceroth) Probst and Tom (Mary Jo) Probst. All reside in Martins Ferry, Colerain area. Seven grandchildren: Alyssa Cotsamire, Jake and Connor Probst, Ashley (Jordan) Howard, Jessie Probst, Kyle and Kelsey Pockl; four great grandchildren; brother, Jim (Josie) Probst of Colerain.
Charlie was a 1954 graduate of Martins Ferry High School. He was a sports standout in baseball and football. He was inducted into the Martins Ferry Hall of Fame in 2017. He was a fan of Martins Ferry Purple Riders, Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Charlie enjoyed playing softball in his younger years and golfing and bowling until a few years ago.
He retired in 1999 from UPS after 30 years of service. He and Shirley had a fun filled relaxing retirement. They enjoyed vacationing at Myrtle Beach, Geneva on the Lake and Tennessee with family and long time friends.
Charlie was the most loving, kind, generous husband, father and grandfather a family could be blessed with. He never ask for anything for himself and was grateful for others kindnesses.
He was a faithful servant of our Lord as a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Martins Ferry having served as a past deacon and usher.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home Friday, June 29, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH.

The Martins Ferry Fire Department will hold services Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
