George Russell O'Connell, Sr.

George Russell O'Connell, Sr., 76, of Martins Ferry, OH, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019.
George was born in Wheeling, WV, on November 18, 1942, a son of the late Edward Joseph and Virginia Irene (Reakauf) O'Connell.
He was a retired motor inspector at the former Wheeling-Steel, Mingo Plant. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Martins Ferry. He served in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Tom, Kenney, Jack and Michael; and sister, Ellen Heller.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, Rose Marie (Leyland) O'Connell; he is survived by two sons, George R. O'Connell, Jr. and Keith J. O'Connell, both of Martins Ferry; sister, Virginia Richardson, Benwood, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his best friend, Teddie.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Keller Funeral Home, 615 Hanover St., Martins Ferry, where friends will be received Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Graveside service will be held Friday, June 28, 2019, at noon, in Upland Cemetery, Yorkville, OH, with Rev. Tom Marut officiating.
Belmont Co. Veterans Association will give military honors at noon, at the cemetery.
