Robert Kenneth Edmundson, “Bob,” 77, of Wheeling, WV, passed away at Wheeling Hospital on
April 22, 2024.
Bob was born on April 3, 1947, in Massillon, OH to the late Thomas William and Verba Laverne
(Bristow) Edmundson. He grew up in Martins Ferry, OH and graduated from MFHS in 1965. He proudly
served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Bob graduated from Ohio University with his
Bachelor's and earned his Master’s Degree from WVU.
Bob had a fulfilling career as a clinical social worker, Certified Addictions Counselor, and Associate
Professor at WVU’s Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry for over 25 years. He was
a favorite of his patients, winning the “Provider of the Year” award in 2013 and 2014. Bob was
particularly dedicated to addictions counseling and group therapy. Bob facilitated groups in person
for decades, and later virtually, until he was no longer able.
Personally, Bob’s greatest joys were spending time with his family, camping, fishing, and watching
Mountaineer sports, especially college basketball and football with Bobby Pacheco.
He spent many summers with his family visiting the beaches of Cape May, NJ. Bob, along with
lifelong friend Lonnie Wineman, went on countless camping/fishing trips including an annual
Tennessee trip with his late brother, Tom, and “the boys.”
Bob loved nature and never failed to recognize the beauty of the sun on the water or a full moon in
the sky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved siblings, brothers Charles “Chick” and
Tom Edmundson and sister Charlene Veloski and best childhood friend, Bob Pucci.
Bob had a quiet strength and was a calming presence. His humor put people at ease and he rarely
judged others. He will be immeasurably missed by his wife and life partner of 50 years, Betty Lou
“B.L.” Edmundson, his two daughters Megan Edmundson of Bethel Park, PA and Katie (Anthony)
Cooper of Wheeling, his six grandchildren Mia (Micah) Dau; Ava, Lucie and Sailor Pacheco, and
Faith and Kyan Cooper, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins and special long-time friends
Marty Coen and Guoli Liang.
A private memorial will be held at the discretion of the family. Charitable contributions may be
made to The Seeing Hand Association of Wheeling, WV. Donations - The Seeing Hand
