WILLIAM "BILL'' FODOR, 79, of Glenns Run Road, Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Monday, November 19, 2007 at East Ohio Regional Hospital.
He was born in McKinleyville, W.Va. on July 11, 1928, the son of the late Steve and Elizabeth (Horkay) Fodor.
He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of Martins Ferry and a retired employee of the former Clevite Corp. of Lansing, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis, Joseph and Arthur Fodor; three sisters, Irma Fayak, Margaret Johnson and Goldie Divjak; son in law, Frank Hardwick.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret R. (Rozsa) Fodor; five daughters, Theresa (Barr) Koller, Martins Ferry; Diane Hardwick, Hope Mills, N.C.; Cheri A. (Thomas) Gandy, Martins Ferry; Sandi L. (Dale) Takach, Columbus, Ohio; Billie Jo (Brian) Malechowski, Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, one step-grandchild, two great grandchildren.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Martins Ferry, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2007 with Rev. Thomas A. Magary as the celebrant.
Mausoleum entombment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, Martins Ferry.
Rosary was held Friday at 3 followed by Wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was born in Moundsville, W.Va. on January 18, 1930, daughter of the late Ward and Helen (Howard) Cain.
She was a retired LPN from Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling; and a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of Martins Ferry
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Cain.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence R. Lotz; three sons, Michael (Linda) Lotz, Matt Lotz, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Mark (Beverly) Lotz, Yorkville, Ohio; four daughters, Helen (Don) Swartz, Columbus, Debbie (Keith) LoCoco, Mary Kay (Bill) Smith and Amy (Ed) Absalom all of Martins Ferry; brother, Mark Cain of Texas; three sisters, Polly Mason Cameron, W. Va., Margaret Darmafall, Moundsville, and Nila Bayles, Florida ; 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Martins Ferry at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2007, with Rev. Thomas A. Magary as the celebrant.
Interment was held at the convenience of the family in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling, W. Va.
Rosary devotions were recited Thursday at the funeral home at 3 followed by a Wake service at 7:30 p.m.

HARRY E. "SHOT" VOGLER, 83, formerly of Walnut Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Wheeling Hospital , Wheeling, W. Va.
He was born in Wheeling, W. Va. on November 11, 1924, a son of the late Edward O. and Julia A. (Clark) Vogler.
He was a retired shipping and receiving clerk at Sears of St. Clairsville; a member of the First Christian Church of Martins Ferry and a U.S. Navy veteran of the W.W. II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delores J. (West) Vogler and a brother, James Vogler.
Harry is survived by a daughter, Linda (Thomas) Yager, St. Clairsville; son, Lawrence E. (Judith) Vogler, Bridgeport; two brothers, Albert and Edward Vogler both of Wheeling; five grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Monday, December 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. with Rod Kasler officiating.

ROBERT J. TOPP, 69, of Reedsville, W.Va. and formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio died Friday, December 7, 2007 at his residence.
He was born in Martins Ferry on October 30, 1938, a son of the late Joseph S. and Ann M. (Kloss) Topp.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph A. Topp.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Marianne Topp; two sons, Michael of Texas and Richie of Maryland; sister, JoAnn Samples of Martins Ferry.
A memorial mass at St. Mary's Church and interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Martins Ferry will be held at a later date.
JOHN J. RICO, JR., 87, of Pearl Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio died Thursday, December 13, 2007. He spent the last year residing with his daughter, Terri and her family in St. Clairsville.
He was born in Beech Bottom, W. Va. on March 27, 1920, a son of the late John J. and Helen (Yudaz) Rico.
He was a retired employee of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Yorkville Plant, and a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Martins Ferry. John was an avid gardener, and loved growing roses. His true pleasure was sharing what he grew with others. He also enjoyed joke telling, fishing, sweets, figs, and singing songs, such as "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" and "You Are My Sunshine".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Virginia D. (Negroski) Rico; two brothers, Steve and Frank Rico; sister, Ann Burda.

She was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on April 12, 1918, a daughter of the late John and Eugenia (Gad) Wnek.
She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Martins Ferry and a member of the Catholic Daughters.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Cominsky; son, John W. Cominsky; grandson, John R. Cominsky; great grandson, Alexander P. Conner; brother, Ted Wnek.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn J. (Brady) Conner, Martins Ferry, Eileen M. Armstrong, Florida, Delores A. Ron was born in Martins Ferry on April 2, 1941, the son of the late Hugh M. and Anna V. (Hails) Phillips.
He was a memeber of Roofers Union Local 188 and retired from Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal, Inc. of Wheeling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Hugh, Allan, Dan and John; two sisters, Betty Rutan and Wilma Doughty.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie L. (Borck) Phillips; son, Ronald R. (Melissa) Phillips, Medina, Ohio; daughter, Kimberly G. (Joel) Looney, Columbus, Ohio; sister, Madeline G. Doughty, Martins Ferry; granddaughter, Abigail K. Phillips.

She was a member of South Bellaire Methodist Church.
Mona is survived by her husband, Walter Krupnik; four sons, John (Patsy) of Florida; Thomas (Vicki) , Bellaire; Doug (Marla) Bellaire; Rick (Melody), Virginia; daughter, Terri (Rich) Materkoski, Bellaire; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on August 23, 1954, he was the son of the late Cledis Dalton and Esther L. (Clyde) Kessler who survives him of Martins Ferry, Ohio.

He was born in Wheeling, W. Va. on August 11, 1920, he was the son of the late Forrest H. and Fredricka (Hahne) Ullom.
He was a member of First Christian Church Martins Ferry; and a retired employee of Columbia Gas of Ohio; a volunteer for Opals Keenagers of East Ohio Regional Hospital and Ohio Valley Medical Center.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Irvine I. Ullom; five sisters, Mildred Ullom, Blanche Hunkler, Pearl Vance, Dorothy Braun and Mabel Thatcher.
Forest is survived by his wife of 66 years, his high school sweetheart, Inece L. (Hores) Ullom; two sons, Robert L. Ullom, Blue Ridge, Georgia and James L. Ullom, Martins Ferry; daughter, Debra S. Harasuik, Martins Ferry; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Martins Ferry and a member of the Bridgeport Chapter #452 Order of the Eastern Star; and also was the Head Majorette of the band when she attended Martins Ferry High School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray C. Ellis; brother, John Thomas Lewis; sister, Ruth Lewis.
She is survived by a sister, Eleanor Yoder of Bridgeport, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on July 25, 1923, the son of the late Thomas Joseph and Mary (Wise) Burns.
He was retired from the former Bloch Brothers Tobacco Company of Wheeling, W. Va.
He was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church; a member of the Knights of Columbus #1421 of Martins Ferry and a Life Member of the DAV # 117 of Bellaire, Ohio.
He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II and the Korean Conflict as a Naval Aviator.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Snezek Burns and a sister, Margaret Mary Finney Dorsey
He is survived by two sons, Thomas J. (Pat) Burns, Martins Ferry and Robert C. (Renee) Burns, Carrollton, Ohio; daughter, Kathleen (Kevin) McCormick, Newark, De. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Lodge # 231; former Eagles Lodge; Baseball Civics and Booster Club all of Martins Ferry and the Bridgeport Eagles. He also coached Martins Ferry Civics Baseball and Softball and coached the Eastern Ohio Colt League.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Orville, Alfred and Wilbur; one sister, Margaret Szeckacs.
He is survived by his wife, Elmira G. She was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church and a retired employee of the former Antler Cafe both of Martins Ferry.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by seven brothers, and seven sisters.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Harrisville and a retired employee of the Norton Coal Co.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred (Wright) Morgan and his second wife, Ferne Atwood Morgan; one son, Ronald Morgan.
He is survived by his son, Terry L. and his wife, Kathryn Morgan, Harrisville; daughter-in-law, Joyce Morgan of Alanson, Mich.; seven grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; three step daughters, Connie, Gaye and Joy.

DONALD R. MYERS, 65, of Carlisle Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio died Friday, April 18, 2008 at Twin City Hospital, Dennison, Ohio.
He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on September 7, 1942. He was the son of the late William C. and Lucille E. (Coury) Myers.
Don was employed as Executive Director of OMEGA, Cambridge, Ohio; former Director of Bel. Co. Dept. of Development from 1990-2001 and former Employee of the City of Martins Ferry, Director of Development.
During his tenure as Dept. of Development Director more than 600 million dollars in development and infrastructure improvement have occured. He is one of only six Manpower Specialists in the United States as certified by the National Civil Service League.
He has served as President of East Ohio Regional Hospital Board of Directors. He was also Past President of the Martins Ferry Rotary Club. He has served as President of the Belomar Regional Council. He was honored by the Belmont Co. Bar Association in 1993 when he received the associations Liberty Bell Award. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church Martins Ferry, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army.
Don is survived by his wife, Linda L. (Cavalier) Myers; son, Eric C. (Jamie) Myers, Gahanna, Ohio; daughter, Kelly A. Myers, Martins Ferry; two brothers, William C. (Sandy) Myers, Martins Ferry and James (Darlene) Myers, Bowling Green, Ohio; sister, Mary Ann Domyan also of Martins Ferry.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 with Rev. Thomas A. Magary as the celebrant.
Interment followed in Powhatan Cemetery, Powhatan, Ohio.
Rosary was recited Monday at 3 p.m. followed by a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. and The Martins Ferry Rotary Club Service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was born in Avella, Pa. on April 28, 1915, a daughter of the late Andrew and Anantasia (Sudyn) Stopera.
She retired as a press operator at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Martins Ferry Plant. She was a member of First Christian Church and a former Girl Scout Leader both in Martins Ferry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Hill; brother, Richard Stopera; two sisters, Emily Hails and Geneveve Fithen.
She is survived by two sons, William J (Patricia) Hill, Martins Ferry and Walter C. CATHERINE "GRACIE" CHARLES, 88, formerly of New Martinsville, W. Va., died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Park Health Center, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
She was born in New Martinsville, W. Va. on February 25, 1920, the daughter of the late John and Laura (Batten) Hamilton.
She was a retired employee for the Federal Government , Washington, D.C. and a member of the New Martinsville Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Charles; two brothers, William and Carl Hamilton; three sisters, Laura Probst, Jo Ann Crow and Thelma Edgell.
She is survived by nephews, Charles Sr., Bernard and James Probst, Clyde, Ronald, Jack and John Hamilton; nieces, Donna Meeker, Sandra Yeager, Patty Licits, Virginia Sakalo, Laura Wild, Amanda Kamms and Barbara Hess.

JAMES P. MERTZ, 63, formerly of Colerain Road, Colerain, Ohio died Friday, May 9, 2008 in East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry, Ohio.
He was born in Greensburg, Pa. on May 25, 1944, a son of the late James G. and Beatrice M. (Allen) Mertz.
Jim was a retired security officer at Wheeling Downs, Wheeling, W. Va. and a former charter bus driver. He was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church of Colerain and a member of Ohio River Valley Elks Lodge #231 of Martins Ferry. He also served in the U. S. Army
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, William J. Mertz.
He is survived by a brother, Melvin L. (Karen) Mertz, Indianapolis, Ind.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 12 Noon with Father Dale Tornes officiating.
Interment followed in Farmington Cemetery, Farmington, Ohio.

She was born in Duffy, Ohio on May 28, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Bertha M. (Huffman) Ensinger.
She was a retired employee of the former Bell Telephone Co. of Steubenville, Ohio. and also the former Blaw-Knox Co. of Martins Ferry. She was a member of the Elm Grove Church of Christ,Wheeling, W. Va. .
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde L. Brown; son, Robert K. Ensinger; grandson, Timonthy Brown; sister, Eleanor Moser; two brothers, William H. and Paul R. Ensinger
She is survived by son, Brent C. Brown, Piedmont, Ohio; brother, Charles C. (Helen) Ensinger, Sardis, Ohio; two sisters, Shirley A. Sall, Vienna, W. Va. and Janet D. (Frank) Tice, Woodsfield, Ohio; two grandsons, Robert Ensinger, Columbus, Ohio and Joseph Brown, Martins Ferry; two granddaughters, Bridget Butler, Paden City, W. Va. and Ellen Cordova, Pueblo, Co. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren.

She was born in Wheeling, W. Va. on September 17, 1942, she was the daughter of the late John and Priscilla M. (Simms) Huston.
She was a former employee of Riesbeck Grocery, St. Clairsville, Ohio. Mary was a member of South Bellaire Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Bill and Ralph Huston; and two sisters, Lillian Snider and Bernadine J. Kiedaisch.
She is survived by two daughters, Tamerra L. Huff and Shelly A. Saracenna; two brothers, Paul J. and Enoch E. Huston; two sisters, Mabel L. Albasin and Ruth J. Sanders; companion, James F. Littleton. She is also survived by several grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughter, Kim (Kevin) Tierney, and Susan Moore, both of Martins Ferry, Ohio; two sons, Jay (Debbie) Carver, Denver, N. Carolina and David (Deana) Carver, Iron Station, N. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Frederick Ruttencutter.

She was born in Martins Ferry , Ohio on August 10, 1952, the daughter of the late Andy and Kay (Takach) Krajnyak.
She was a retired registered nurse at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, W. Va.; and a member of the O.V.M.C. Quarter Century Club.
Diane is survived by two brothers, Drew Krajnyak of Price,Utah and Steve Krajnyak and his wife, Linda of Fayetteville, N.C.; nephew, Donny.

He was born in St. Clairsville, Ohio on March 23, 1927, a son of the late Charles and Myrtle (Glover) Rinkes.
He was a retired employee of the Ohio Valley Dairy of Martins Ferry. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II and also served in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. (Secoy) Rinkes.

WILLIAM L. JONES, age 68, Pearl St. Martins Ferry, Ohio , died Friday, August 8th, 2008 at East Ohio Regional Hospital.
William was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on March 10, 1940, he was the son of the late Paul and Zella (Henderson) Jones.
He was a retired Baker at Nickles Bakery, Martins Ferry, where he worked for 30 years.
William is survived by his wife, Carol (Jones) Jones.

She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Magnolia Twig of East Ohio Regional Hospital, both of Martins Ferry.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Ware and her second husband Fred Davidson; son, Clinton Ware; three sisters, Janet Stauffer, Gertrude Vinfrido, and Margaret Forni; three brothers, Charles, Earl and Willard Thomas.

He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on March 5, 1939, the son of the late Manley W. and Helen M. (Schultz) Hood.
He was a retired Semi-Truck driver for Scheehle Produce of Martins Ferry. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, member of the former Eagles Lodge, both of Martins Ferry and a member of the American Legion Post #521of Shadyside. He also served in the U. S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hood.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Rebecca J. (Doyle) Hood; son, Richard K. Hood, Jr. "D.J."; daughter, Heather M. (Mike) Vickers, all of Martins Ferry; a brother, Edward "Alan" (Marjorie) Hood, Shadyside; sister-in-law, Mildred Hood, Martins Ferry; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was born in Bridgeport, Ohio on October 13, 1937, a daughter of the late Harold and Wilda (Bland) Craig.
She was a retired Nurse's Aid at E.O.R.H., Martins Ferry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen L. Gibson; son, G. Michael Gibson; two brothers, Harold J. and William T. Craig; sister, Patricia F. Shively; and one granddaughter, Jessica M. Bursee.
She is survived by a daughter, Robin (Chuck) Bursee, Martins Ferry; two son, Chris (Candy) Gibson, Clarksburg, Ohio and M. HARRIETT ELIZABETH MIKLAS, 70, of Delia Avenue, Martins Ferry, Ohio , died Thursday, October 16, 2008, at Ohio State Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio, after a long illness.
She was born in Martins Ferry on June 18, 1938, daughter of the late William Hosso and Martha (Munzie) Hosso who survives her of Martins Ferry.
Harriett was a graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic Academy, a longtime employee of The Times Leader, beginning work in October of 1976 as a typist for the news department and writing obituaries. Later, she worked in the Lifestyles Department, becoming the garden editor and writing the popular Brush-N-Shovel column. Harriet loved to paint and was an avid gardener and voracious reader.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry.
In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband of 50 years, Whitney L. Miklas; seven children, Mark (Renee) Miklas of Bowling Green, Michael (Renee) Miklas of Martins Ferry, Michelle (Edward) Groves of Wheeling, Melanie (Scott) Wensyel of Zanesville, Melissa Miklas of Columbus, Marilyn (Jim) Stewart of Chesterfield, Va., and Maribeth Miklas of Columbus; grandchildren, Justin, Shaye and Devyn Wensyel; Zane, Emily and Cameron Stewart; Kelly and Kyle Miklas; and Kayla Miklas.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry at 11:30 A.M. on Monday, October 20, 2008, with the Rev. Thomas A. Magary as the celebrant.
Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, Martins Ferry.

TODD A. McSWORDS, 44, of Kirkwood Heights Road, Bridgeport, Ohio, died Friday, October 31, 2008 in East Ohio Regional Long Term Care, Martins Ferry, Ohio.
Todd was born in Wheeling, W. Va. on January 14, 1964, a son of Leonard B. and Nancy K. (Baker) McSwords of Grove City, Ohio.
He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Trustee; Vice President of the Purple Rider Booster Club; President of the parents association of the wrestling team; and a member of the Redmen's Club, all of Martins Ferry. He was employed as a communication technician for A.T. & T., St. Clairsville office. He served in the U.S. Marines.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving companion, Vicki Miller; son, Zane D. McSwords; daughter, Jennalissa D. McSwords; two step son, Joshua D. (Audrey) Swartz, Nashville, Tenn.; Austin D. Swartz, Bridgeport, Ohio; two brothers, Joseph A. (Sara) McSwords; Jerry Z. (Julie) McSwords, Westerville, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Grace Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. William O. Webster, Jr. officiating.
Interment followed in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry.
The Elders of the church held services Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Belmont Co. Council of the V.F.W. gave military honors at the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The Casualty Branch of the U. S. Marine Corp. Color Guard also gave military honors at the cemetery.

PASTOR RAYMOND E. SHIPLEY, 79, formerly of Porters Falls, W. Va. died Sunday, November 2, 2008 in Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
He was born in Moundsville, W.Va. on August 12, 1929, the son of the late William L. and Sadie L. (Martin) Shipley.
He was a retired Welder at Mitchell Power Plant, Moundsville, W.Va. and a retired Minister for the Lighthouse Baptist Church of Proctor, W. Va. Raymond served in the U.S. Marines.
He is survived by daughter, Monica R. (Marty) Defelice, Grafton, W. Va.; son, Terry R. Shipley, Neffs, Ohio; two sisters, Leona Muravsky, Jacobsburg, Ohio; Nyla (James) Bell, Berea, Ohio; grandson, Jeremy R. Adkins, Grafton, W. Va..

MARGARET ANN REASBECK, 92, of Virginia Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio , died Sunday, November 16th, 2008 at Wheeling Medical Park Hospital, Wheeling, WVa.
Margaret was born in Bellaire, Ohio on May 25, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Katherine (Spanner) Meister.
She was a retired Secretary at Former C. J. Reasbeck & Sons, Martins Ferry. Margaret was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Women's Club both of Martins Ferry.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Reasbeck; brother, Charles W,. Meister; and sister, Cecilia Hanly.
She is survived by daughter, Barbara Ann (William) Edge, Martins Ferry, Ohio; granddaughter, Lisa Edge, Columbus, Ohio; Brother Kenneth L. (Patricia) Meister, Wheeling, WVa, several nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Novbember 19,2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Martins Ferry with Rev. Thomas A. Magary as Celebrant. Entombment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum.

HARRY KARATHANASIS, born October 22, 1933 to Thelma and Steve Kardanis (deceased) and sister Mary (deceased), died at home early in the morning on November 22, 2008 at his residence.
He spent many happy years in several boroughs of New York, especially the third grade when he and several friends experienced all the "Big Apple" had to offer except school. Later this behavior led to his relocation to his grandparents Kovas' home and his extended Greek family in Martins Ferry. Here, Harry "Alphabet" forged many strong friendships and was so proud to be a Purple Rider.
Many memories were recounted with his endless Army stories and OU-Athens antics. However, the theme of hard work and stong friendships always permeated the words.
His teaching career started at Jewett, Oh, where truly great mentors led him to pass on many valuable lessons to his students and there and at Shadyside High School , where he retired.
His family he leaves behind are two daughters; Stefania Albert, Martins Ferry, Oh. and Stacia Karathanasis of Columbus, Oh, a grandson; Elliott Albert, Martins Ferry, his former wife; Marcia, and a brother-in-law Carmelo.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home, Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Spiro Kehayes officiating.

MORFE PANDELOS, 86, of So. 8th Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio , died Sunday, November 23, 2008 at her residence.
She was born in Yorkville, Ohio on December 8, 1921, the daughter of the late Steve and Katina Zumbandis.
She was a retired employee of Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling , W. Va. Morfe was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church Of The Life-Giving Fountain of Martins Ferry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chris Pandelos and a daughter, Katherine Barbara Pandelos.
She is survived by two sons, Manuel and Michael Pandelos; daughter, Christy Lutz, all of Martins Ferry. She is also survived by five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Trisagion services were held at the funeral home Wednesday at 5 p.m.

HARRY F. HAUGHT, 80, of Bannock, Ohio, formerly of Martins Ferry, died Thursday, December 11th, 2008 at his residence.
Harry was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on June 19, 1928, a son of the late John Henry and Lilly Blanche (Nolton) Haught.
He was a retired Baker for Nickles Bakery, Martins Ferry, Ohio, where he had worked for thirty years. Harry also served in the Korean War with the U.S Army, and he was a member of the First Baptist Church, Martins Ferry, Oh.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by four sisters, Bertha May Haught, Iva Semelveis, Gladys Turvy, and Inez Hayman.
He is survived by a brother, Charles (Selma) Haught, Martins Ferry, Oh.; niece, Kris (Frank) Roy, Bannock, OH, with whom he resided with, and several other nieces and nephews.

Donald was born on October 19, 1936, the son of the late Ernest and Inez L. (Haught) Hayman.
He is survived by three daughters, Chrissey (John) Leasure, Tiltonsville, Ohio, Sheryl Ann Hibbitts, Lake Wells, Florida, and Brandi Hayman, Connorsville, Ohio; five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

PAUL BLAIR WHITE, 77, of Whitewood Drive, Bridgeport, Ohio , died Monday, January 12, 2009 at Forest Hill Retirement Community, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on February 26, 1931, a son of the late Paul A. and Jeanne (Neely) White.
Paul was an entrepreneur of several businesses including Tri-State Ice, Jim's Drive In and the Plaza Dairy. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the Colerain V.F.W. and the American Legion of Martins Ferry. He was a member of the Community of Christ, Wheeling, W. Va.
He is survived by his wife, Jane E. (Jones) White; son, Paul "Terry'' B. (Christine) White, Jr., Colerain, Ohio; daughter, Elizabeth A. White, Columbus, Ohio; son, Tom J. (Jennifer) Tobin, Canton, Michigan; daughter, Laura J. (Tony) Tobin Dorsey, Taylorstown, Pa.; son, Michael A. Tobin, Marysville, Ohio; son, Blair M. He was born in Bridgeport, Ohio on January 7, 1935, a son of the late John W. and Elizabeth (Nemeti) Strauss.
He was a retired electrician for the former Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Mingo Plant .
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, John William Strauss, II.
Carl is survived by his wife, Louise A. (Pollock) Strauss; two daughters, Deborah L. (Jeff) Sproul, Pickerington, Ohio and Cheryl A. (John) Deblasis, Martins Ferry; two sons, Carl F. He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on January 14, 1930, he was the son of the late Carmen and Mary Grace (Capuccia) DeFede.
"Pops" was a retired Shipping Foreman at the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Martins Ferry plant;
a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry; and also served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary, Lucille, Serafina, and Josephine; brothers, Frank and Samuel.

BARBARA A. CROLLEY, 75, of South Zane Highway, Martins Ferry, Ohio and formerly of Bridgeport, Ohio passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2009.
She was born in Moundsville, W. Va. on June 11, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John and Nellie (Stumbus) Geary.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Church, Bridgeport, Ohio.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hugh Crolley and a sister, Mary Waugaman.

JOHN J. "JUNIOR" BENNING, 85, of Hughes Ave., Martins Ferry, Ohio , died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at his residence.
He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on May 19, 1923, he was the son of the late John and Susanna (Pitters) Benning.
He was a retired office employee of the former Wheeling-Pitts. Steel, Martins Ferry plant. He was a lifetime member of Saint John's Luthern Church; member of the Ohio River Valley Elks, Lodge #231; American Legion, Post 38; Seibenburger Saxon Club, all of Martins Ferry. John served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth J. (Zimmerman) Benning; two sisters, Elsie (Orville) Beavon and Erma (Kenny) Herr; brother-in-law, William Edler; step-son, Williard "Jack" Woods.
He is survived by a sister, Esther Edler, Fairborn, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.; special friend, Jack Henderson.

THOMAS P. ZIMMERMAN, 89, of Central Avenue, Martins Ferry, Ohio , died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 in East Ohio Regional Long Term Care.
He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on February 12, 1920, he was the son of the late Phillip and Mary E. (Urwin) Zimmerman.
He was a retired carpenter for the former William Cooper, Inc. of Wheeling; a member of St. Paul's Luthern Church of Bridgeport; served in the U.S. Army Air Force during W.W. II.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Urwin and William; three sisters, Kathryn Neff, Ruth Benning and Audrey Britton.
Tom is survived by his wife of 61 years, Catherine "Kitty" Zimmerman; son, Timonthy T. Zimmerman, Columbus; three daughters, Judith K. (John) Runkel, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Janet L. (Gary) Zurenko, Kalamazoo, MI.; Cathy J. Zimmerman, Martins Ferry; sister, Majorie J. (Jack) Jones, Belpre, Ohio. He is also survived by four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Karen Torrez officiating.
Interment followed in Weeks Cemetery, Bridgeport, Ohio.

HEWITT H. NORTEMAN, 85, of Sandusky, Ohio died Thursday, March 19, 2009.
He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on October 14, 1923 the son of the late Homer and Mary (McMahon) Norteman.
He was a graduate of Martins Ferry High School and the University of Cincinnati. He was active in the Alumni Association of Cincinnati, establishing a scholarship for a M. F. graduate who will major in engineering. He lived and worked in Detroit for 55 years. Hewitt was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Clark) Norteman.
He is survived by cousins, Jean (Don) Miller of Sandusky, Hope (Doug) Nottke, Huron, Barbara (Jack) Falfas, Sandusky, Becky (Mike) Nelson, Huron and Margie (Bill) Roll also of Sandusky.
Memorial service was held at the funeral home on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 1 p.m. with Rev. William O. Webster, Jr. officiating.
Interment followed in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry.
